Lignano with its mild, healthy climate, its pleasant summer breeze and outstanding facilities for sport and leisure, is the most attractive holiday destination of the Adriatic coast.
Ernest Hemingway who discovered this town at the time of the Great War, famously compared it to Florida. Formerly a tiny ancient port, became a tourist destination since 1900. The most prosperous period in its history began in 1950’s with the construction of numerous tourist facilities.
The town became quickly a much sought national and international holiday destination. In addition to the modern bathing resort of Lignano Sabbiadoro, the charming Lignano Pineta designed by the famous architect Marcello D’Olivo and the exclusive Lignano Riviera, both surrounded by the pinewood.
Today Lignano is the destination for those who like matching relax and sun with sport. Sport activities start on the sand with centres staffed by skilled sailing and windsurf instructors. A top class volleyball tournament takes place on the beach every summer.
Horse riding schools will give you the opportunity of an early morning ride along the deserted shoreline, an absolutely unique experience. Tennis courts and minigolf are at short distance from the centre of the town. The two indoor pools ( 50 m and 25 m) located in the sports village Getur are an excellent place to hold a swimming training camp.
You will even get the opportunity to try your hand at golf: the all year round Golf Club has some of the most beautiful sea-front fairways in Europe.
The club house with its wide terrace overlooking the putting green offers all the necessary comforts to relax after a 18 hole course: reading room, bridge room, changing room and a professional shop with a fine selection of clothes and equipment.
